THE FEMALE GAZE

Featuring: Mary Davidson, Ilene Richard, and other female artists, who look at women with humor, insight, and grace.
Reception Friday, June 3, 2022 — In-person 5-8pm/Online 4:30-5pm
See Zoom link at bottom

Mary Davidson's body of work, “My New Hat Series,” presents colorful, geometric, large scale feminine forms, that are mysterious, bold, dramatic, captivating and complex. The many elegant, amorphic, intricate shapes which flow throughout, keep the eyes moving. These playful, dynamic, creative works, give the viewer a chance to pause, lifting your spirit to a better place.

Ilene Richard's figurative work is based on my observations of people involved in everyday activities. Whether it be the interaction of a couple dancing or a group of strangers standing next to each other in a crowded room. I create an emotional connection for not only the viewer, but also between the people depicted in my work. Working as a children’s book illustrator and painter, it is important to me to create a narrative quality to my work, and draw the viewer more easily into my world.

Online Reception starts

Art instructor, aspiring poet, and mixed media artist, Nicole Irene, creates out of her home in the Berkshire hills of western Massachusetts. A gem + mineral enthusiast and consciousness explorer, she believes in magic. Nicole Irene is moved by the beauty of the nocturnal sky, esoteric spirituality, astronomical phenomena, mysticism, and cosmology.

Nicole Irene specializes in abstract geometrics, fluid applications, and reinventing our rich heritage of craft through employing artistic processes and embracing methods that lie outside the art historical canon. She manipulates unlikely combinations of ideal standard and unsophisticated materials that pry apart the hierarchies of artistic value.

Rebelling against conservative categorization and aesthetic conventions, Nicole Irene challenges notions of status, excess, and taste with a fresh and playful sense of experimentation.
